Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is the manipulation of the body’s soft tissues to promote health and well-being. It can play a vital role in achieving improved physical, emotional and spiritual health. Some of the proven effects of massage include: relaxed muscle tissue, improved range of motion, reduced heart rate, lowered blood pressure, reduced pain, increased blood circulation, enhanced body awareness, and peace of mind.

Massage can help athletes enjoy a faster recovery from injury and relief of muscle soreness. Many companies use seated massage to reduce absenteeism, boost productivity, and counter ills such as musculoskeletal problems and stress.

As a supplement to medical treatments, massage may help combat the pain and symptoms of many ailments including: arthritis, asthma and bronchitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, circulatory problems, depression, digestive disorders, headaches, insomnia, myofascial pain, sinusitis, sports injuries, whiplash, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ/TMD).

For more information, or to set up an appointment contact the Courts Plus service desk at (630) 833-5064.

When is Massage Recommended?

Massage may not be appropriate for those who have inflammation of the veins, infectious diseases, high fevers, certain forms of cancer, immediate areas of hemorrhage or heavy tissue damage, and certain skin conditions and select cardiac problems. If any of these conditions raise any questions, please consult your physician.

Types of Massage

Many types of massage are available. Below are a few offered at Courts Plus. Consult our massage therapist biographies to determine which therapists specialize in your preferred type of massage.

Trigger Point Therapy (also known as Myotherapy or Neuromuscular Therapy)-
Applies concentrated finger pressure to “trigger points” (painful irritated areas in muscles) to break cycles of spasm and pain.

Swedish Massage-
A system of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints.

Muscle Therapy/Deep Tissue-
Releases the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the concentrated areas, either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendons and fascia. It is called deep tissue, because it also focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue.

Sports Massage-
Massage therapy focusing on muscle systems relevant to a particular sport.

Myofascial Release-
A form of bodywork that is manipulative in nature and seeks to rebalance the body by releasing tension in the fascia. Long, stretching strokes are utilized to release muscular tension.

Pregnancy-
Involves a side-lying position to loosen and relax tight muscles.

Reflexology-
Massage based around a system of points in the hands and feet thought to correspond or “reflex,” all areas of the body.
