Safety
Emergency
Situations!
If
you are at Courts Plus and see someone who may be in trouble or
not feeling well, please inform the staff. We are here to help and
maintain a safe environment. You will see the Emergency Stations
located around the facility. They are large placards with green
writing and a red push button. There is also a box containing a
pocket mask and gloves. In the event of a life threatening emergency
(one in which the person is unconscious or unresponsive) simply
press the red button. (The red button should not be pressed for
less serious injuries). This becomes an open line to a special phone
at the service desk. It also tells us where you are in the club.
You may then explain the situation and the service desk will call
911 and call a Code Blue (see below ) if appropriate.
Code
Blue and Do You Remember?
This
is just a reminder for all of you. Courts Plus has an Automated
External Defibrillator (AED). The AED is bright red and is mounted
on the wall behind the service desk. The AED is used when a person
has experienced cardiac arrest and is pulseless and not breathing.
If this were to happen at Courts Plus....staff would initiate the
Code Blue System. CPR would begin on the individual and 911 would
be called. In addition, another staff member would retrieve the
AED. The AED is very simple to use in that all the operator has
to do is to first turn the AED on and then follow the voice prompts.
The AED will direct the operator to apply the pads to the patient's
bare chest and plug in pads connector next to flashing light. The
machine does all of the work. It analyzes the rhythm and determines
whether or not a shock should be administered. If a shock is advised
by the AED, the operator would press the orange button. The machine
will only allow a shock to be administered to two lethal heart rhythms:
ventricular tachycardia at a rate over 180 and ventricular fibrillation.
These rhythms occur most often in cardiac arrest. The AED may or
may not get them out of that lethal rhythm, but this is the best
chance that they will have along with CPR.
About
40 of the Courts Plus staff are trained in operation of the AED.
All have agreed that it is very simple to use. Courts Plus is fortunate
to have an AED to provide for the best care possible.
Code
Blue System - What is it? This
is for life threatening emergencies only. If a person is unconscious
or unresponsive, the Code Blue System will be implemented. At this
time, a person designated at the service desk will announce over
the intercom "Code Blue (location of person)" three times. This
will alert the appropriate staff of the emergency situation and
put them into action. At this time "911" will be called and staff
will respond to the location with the AED and take all of the necessary
actions. Please note, if you are a qualified physician who hears
the Code Blue announcement, we welcome your assistance, but require
the necessary identification unless you are a physician known by
us.
