Construction on Berens Park Hub Playground set to begin February 21

  • Berens Park Hub Playground redevelopment

The Berens Hub Playground Redevelopment project will begin on Friday, February 21 with the installation of construction and silt fencing. Demolition work will begin the following week.

Redevelopment of the playground was approved by the Park Board in November of last year. Originally built in 2004, it’s one of the most heavily used playgrounds in the District, due to its proximity to Wagner Community Center and several athletic fields.

The new playground will focus on play opportunities for a broad age range. Equipment will include a zip line, tire swing and a shaded merry-go-round structure, the We-Go-Round, which lets kids of all abilities share in the fun.

Additional features will include streamlined seating throughout, shaded picnic areas and landscaping updates.

During construction, the site will be contained by a steel construction fence with windscreen on the pathway sides. Construction traffic will not be using the pathway leading to The Hub on a regular basis.

While the impact of weather conditions this spring could affect the project’s timeline slightly, the project is scheduled to be completed in mid-May. This would allow the playground to be ready for playtime when The Hub’s other amenities open. Updates to the project will be shared to epd.org as they become available.
