Elmhurst Garden Club recognized for commitment to community

Elmhurst Park District Executive Director, Jim Rogers, presented Elmhurst Garden Club Garden Walk & Faire Committee Chair, Georgia Dolan, with the 2019 IPRA/IAPD Community Service Award at the June 1 Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce Breakfast at Wilder Mansion.

The award was originally scheduled to be given in April 2020, but the pandemic lockdowns postponed these plans. The June 1 meeting presented the perfect opportunity to publicly recognize the Garden Club. It was the first time the group has hosted the Chamber Breakfast since the end of lockdowns.

The award recognizes the “outstanding contributions and unselfish devotion for the advancement of parks, recreation and leisure in the community and the state of Illinois”.

The Garden Club has partnered with the Park District on numerous occasions. Their annual Garden Walk & Faire makes use of Wilder Park for a vendor faire. Proceeds from this event help fund community horticulture projects, including the Park District’s Recreation Assistance program. In the past, they have provided the Park District with milkweed seeds for planting a Monarch Waystation in Butterfield Park. The group also currently helps maintain the Herb Garden in the Wilder Park Formal Wedding Gardens.
