With the arrival of spring, staff is busy preparing the Wilder Park Formal Gardens to welcome wedding parties and visitors. The tent over the sunken ceremony garden went up this week, marking the arrival of formal events to this corner of Wilder Park.
The gardens, located at the southern edge of Wilder Park, consist of a series of landscape displays, including herb gardens, seasonal plants, butterfly gardens, and formal perennial beds.
The garden’s winding pathway leads visitors to a sunken ceremony garden, which seats up to 130 guests. The tent provides an intimate and shaded venue for couples looking for a classic outdoor wedding experience.
For many years now, the garden has been the site of special moments for wedding couples and their families. Beyond weddings, the garden plays host to other events, such as Yoga in the Garden, a summer series of classes offered by Courts Plus. This year a new program, Sunset Sound Bowl Meditation, will also be offered by Courts Plus. Of course, park-goers are welcome to stroll the garden, which is a great pairing with a visit to Wilder Park Conservatory.
Last year, the garden received some improvements to look forward to seeing. Masonry updates were completed at the brick entry gates and new decorative arbors now welcome guests. The landscape beds also received updated materials that have a timeless look, perfect for enhancing the garden’s elegant environment.
Whether for a formal event, a family walk, or a dose of quiet reflection, Park District staff is excited for warmer weather and the community’s return to the garden.
