This spring, a new fence at Butterfield Park will give parkgoers an extra level of safety for children making use of the playground.

The park is home to The Playground for Everyone, the Park District’s fully inclusive playground. The playground is a popular destination for all families seeking playtime but is specifically designed for those with different abilities. It features structures that encourage play for kids with mobility challenges and developmental disabilities or delays.

Community feedback from those who frequent the playground has mentioned the lack of containment at the park, especially given that those with sensory issues have a propensity to elope or run off.

While the playground had split rail fencing along the parking area, it remained open on three sides.

In response to the feedback, a non-climbing boundary fence was determined the best way to alleviate concerns.

The steel ornamental fence has a single point of access at the main entry point to Butterfield Park's playground. It is being installed this month, ensuring the fence is in place as warm weather brings crowds to the park this spring.
