Registration for Summer Camps and Aquatics is coming up this Saturday, February 11 at 8 am. The Park District is especially excited this year to get summer underway, as 2023 brings expanded summer camp offerings for the community!
Following record waitlists last year, recreation staff focused on expanding programming options this summer.
Says Director of Recreation, Sarah Lagesse, “We heard the community’s desire to offer more camp options and we are excited to bring these new and expanded opportunities this year!”
With limited facility space and a challenging staffing environment, staff had to think outside the box. New teen camp, Camp Canteen, and a new Turf & Surf Camp will make use of the parks and pools rather than indoor facility space, giving campers a chance to explore the outdoors all summer long.
Camp Canteen, for kids entering 6th-8th grade, will be based at Wagner Community Center. An extension of the Park District’s popular Funseekers Day Camp, this new camp will get campers exploring beyond the Community Center, with trips to the pool twice a week and two field trips a week. After camp care will also be available for those who need an extended day.
Turf & Surf Camp is for those looking for adventure! Each morning, campers will meet at Centennial Park and hit the turf with their bike to visit local destinations for a fun, outdoor field trip adventure! After lunch, campers will bike to the pool for swimming. This day camp will have two age groups, 10-12 and 12-14.
Staff realizes there are some parents who need camp care all summer long, and so we’re also happy to introduce a new 10 week registration option for Funseekers Day Camp that will make registration easier. Instead of signing up for multiple sessions throughout the summer, families can sign up once for the full 10 weeks. This option will be available at both our north side location at Wagner Community Center and our south side location at Eldridge Park Recreation Building.
New sports camps this year include EXACT Sports Clinics for Basketball and Volleyball. Plus, our Ultimate Sports Camp is excited to offer All Star weeks for our Ultimate Sports Camp vets. These weeks will feature all the same skill development as our regular camp sessions, with added challenges and intensity.
The community can check out the full array of summer camps coming to Elmhurst Park District in our Spring Brochure! Registration for Summer Camp & Aquatics opens at 8 am on Saturday, February 11 for residents.
