Plunkett Park Playground Plans Approved

  • Plunkett Park Master Plan

At the Tuesday, January 17 Park Board Meeting, plans for the updating of Plunkett Park playground were approved. Plunkett Park playground is next on the District’s replacement schedule and the plans will ensure that the playground continues to comply with current safety standards and ADA accessibility requirements.

Part of the planning process for the playground included gathering public feedback, which was sought initially through public meetings, followed by onsite in-person surveys at the playground and an online survey with suggested playground themes and components.

Based on this feedback, conceptual plans for the playground include plans to add additional shade trees, add more picnic tables and park benches, improve drainage and replace wood chips with a low maintenance synthetic turf. The playground will have a tree house theme with equipment that includes elements inspired by nature and outdoor adventure. Specific equipment includes a Global Motion, a sphere structure that kids can climb, rotate and explore, as well as an Expression Swing, a swing with an adult seat and toddler seat, which allows caregiver and child to swing and have fun together.

The proposed cost to replace the playground with accessible surfacing, repair pathways and include items in the ADA transition plan is $450,000. The renovation is scheduled to begin in August 2017, when summer camps have completed at Plunkett Park. Renovations should be completed by October 2017.

Visit our Plunkett Park project page in the coming months for updates on the playground's progress.
