Salt Creek Greenway Trail Connector project begins

Progress on the Salt Creek Greenway trail connector has officially begun. The Elmhurst Park District’s 2019 capital budget included funds for completing the engineering, design, and construction of a 740 ft. long by 6 ft. wide asphalt trail connection in proximity to Brush Hill Road south of Butterfield Road. The current alignment at this location had trail users on the shoulder of the road and traveling against the flow of traffic.

“This project will provide a less hazardous bike route for all trail users,” said Director of Facilities Angela Ferrentino.

The project will be partially funded through an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) grant of $363,200. Silt fencing was installed last week and construction will mobilize this week with sheet piling installation.
