In the 2026 capital budget, staff propose replacing the HVAC ducts in the Courts Plus men’s locker room. The ducts were installed in 1990 and are the original ductwork. The constant exposure to high humidity has created a caustic environment resulting in severe deterioration of the existing ducts, including rusted metal that can be penetrated with a finger. As a result, proper air flow in the locker room is reduced, adding to humidity levels, which causes a decrease in member comfort levels, a greater deterioration of other equipment, such as fixtures, and an environment where mold can develop in the locker room. Replacement with aluminum duck work is recommended due to its resistance to corrosion in humid conditions. Staff estimate saving $7,500 in annual maintenance costs over three-years after project completion.
