Trail users can look forward to a new permanent heated restroom along the Prairie Path coming soon. This week, construction fencing went up along the Prairie Path near the gazebo at Spring Road, where the new building will be located.
The permanent, heated restroom will provide trail users year-round access to a safe, clean, and accessible restroom. The facility was one of the projects which was approved by a majority of residents through Elmhurst Park District’s 2024 bond referendum.
Elmhurst Park District will commemorate the start of construction with a groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday, October 17 at 9am. Work on the project is expected to wrap up early next year.
The site selection was made based on community feedback collected in Fall 2025 through an online survey and an open house event. Respondents preferred the Spring Road location over locations at Pioneer Park and near York Road. Additionally, site topography and utility availability were significant considerations in the decision-making process. The chosen site features relatively flat terrain and offers easy access to essential services such as water, electricity, and sanitation.
The Spring Road location offers a convenient and central position along the Illinois Prairie Path in Elmhurst, where it serves as a popular meeting and resting point for trail users.
