East End Park Project
The Park District has partnered with Kids Around the World in the past to remove and re-purpose old playground equipment. Recently, old East End Park playground equipment was installed by the organization in Tamale, Ghana, so kids will continue to make use of it for having fun!
Despite some rainy weather, East End Playground reopened this Saturday, October 24, with smiling faces and kids eager to play. Park Board President Carolyn Ubriaco talked about the history of East End Park, which was purchased in 1929 from the Albert Bucholz Farm.
The arrival of a concrete mixer on site means that concrete work has begun at the East End Playground renovation project. The playground project is schedule to be completed Friday, October 16.
The 2015 East End Playground Project construction is set to begin on Monday, August 17. New playground equipment and site furnishings, a soft safety surface, fencing and an ADA accessible concrete walk will be installed. The park will also receive tree plantings and landscape restoration.
On February 26, the district held a second meeting regarding the East End Park playground renovation scheduled for fall 2015. Two preliminary playground concepts were presented based on feedback from a prior public meeting, and many voiced approval of the planned playground relocation from the southeast corner of the park to a more central spot, as the existing playground is very close to the street.
