Eldridge Park redevelopment begins with removal of equipment by Kids Around the World

  • Eldridge Park redevelopment

A new playground is coming to Eldridge Park's east side! The playground, located on the Spring Road side of the park, was originally slated to be updated in 2020, but work was postponed due to pandemic related financial constraints.

The playground plans include climbing equipment, slides, an expanded swing area, additional seating and more shade structures. The sand play area and the wood chips currently at the playground will be removed and a permeable rubber safety surfacing and rubber safety tiles will be installed. In addition to the playground replacement, the asphalt will be refurbished, improving accessibility. The Spring Road parking stalls will also be resurfaced.

Park-goers will still have access to the park’s west playground, along Commonwealth Lane. The roller hockey and tennis courts will be open during construction.

Work began on May 27 when the old equipment was removed by Kids Around the World, a non-profit organization which refurbishes and reinstalls playground equipment for underserved communities around the world.
