The Elmhurst Garden Club is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, and the Elmhurst Board of Park Commissioners offered official congratulations by approving a resolution commemorating the occasion at its September 14 Park Board meeting.
For decades, the District has partnered with the Garden Club in numerous ways that enhance the parks. In 1981, they established and continued to maintain the Herb Garden in the Wilder Park Formal Gardens, adding to the destination’s diversity and beauty.
Since 1995, the Garden Club’s annual Garden Walk & Faire has taken place in Wilder Park. This event showcases both private and public gardens in the community and includes a boutique and plant sale held in the park. Proceeds from the event go towards scholarships and various community initiatives.
In addition to attending the Park Board meeting to receive the resolution, representatives of the Garden Club also presented the District with a $6,000 donation from proceeds raised at this year’s faire. This contribution will support the District’s Recreation Assistance Program, enabling disadvantaged residents to take part in recreational activities.
The District is pleased to recognize the Elmhurst Garden Club’s lasting contributions to the preservation, beautification, environmental stewardship, and quality of life within the Elmhurst community.
