At the Monday, May 8 Annual Board Meeting, incumbent Tim Sheehan was sworn in along with newly elected Commissioner, Susan Smentek.
Board Elections were held for the year during the meeting, with Commissioner Kevin Graf elected Board President and Commissioner Sheehan elected Board Vice President.
As a Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE) with a BS in Communications Speech from Northwestern University, Smentek has over 35 years of experience in the parks and recreation field. She is currently employed at Morton Grove Park District as a Recreation Supervisor & Sponsorship Coordinator.
At her first Board meeting, Smentek thanked the residents for giving her the opportunity to serve, saying “I want to thank the 5,000 plus residents who decided I should be here.”
Smentek has familiarity with the Elmhurst Park District, having served as the District’s Cultural Arts Program Supervisor for seven years, 2013-2020. Beyond parks and recreation, she has also served as the Director of Music at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church since 2008.
