Wagner Community Center Project moves forward with design and temporary relocation plans

  • Wagner Community Center Project moves forward with design and temporary relocation plans

At their June 9 Park Board meeting, the Elmhurst Park District Board of Park Commissioners approved the exterior elevations for the new Wagner Community Center, taking another big step forward in the realization of one of the District’s most significant redevelopment projects. Following the voter-approved bond referendum in November 2024, the Park District is moving ahead with plans to construct a new, modern Wagner Community Center designed to serve all ages, reduce program waitlists, and better accommodate the growing needs of the community.

The building’s schematic design was approved in April 2025. The approved exterior elevations now provide residents with a first look at what the future Wagner facility will look like. These elevations were presented by Dewberry, the project’s architectural and engineering partner.

The Board also reviewed and discussed the building’s site plan at the meeting, which outlines property boundaries, existing structures, and planned improvements such as the new parking lot. With the site plan and exterior elevations now approved, work will now begin on detailed construction documents in preparation for groundbreaking this fall.

Temporary relocation of some Wagner programs to 185 Industrial Drive

To keep programs running smoothly during construction, most Wagner programs and services will be relocated to other Elmhurst Park District facilities this fall. Dance and gymnastics programs will have a new home at a newly-leased space at 185 Industrial Drive in Elmhurst—just down the street from Mariano’s.

Right now, the Park District is working hard to get the new facility ready to welcome participants later this year. In the meantime, the first fall session of dance and gymnastics will continue to be held at the Wagner Center while preparations at 185 Industrial Drive are ongoing.

Once Park District staff have a confirmed move-in date, participants will be notified with plenty of time to plan. For the most up-to-date program details, log into your ActiveNet account and follow the steps below.
