Elmhurst Park District asks for community’s help to name first dog park!

  • Dog Park naming

Update: This survey is closed. Nationally, 66% of households own a pet, and if you take a walk through any area of town, it’s not hard to see that many four-legged, furry friends call Elmhurst home. And soon...the Elmhurst Park District will give dogs their own place to play!

In honor of National Dog Day, the District is asking for the community’s help to name the first-ever dog park! For years, residents have expressed an interest in a dog park, and in 2018, the Park Board approved a master plan to build one at 0S761 Old York Road. Unfortunately, the project was delayed due to lack of funding and then COVID. But in December 2022, the Park Board approved the hiring of Upland Design to complete the dog park architecture and engineering services.

This year, permitting and site prep work has taken place, and this fall, bids will be released to build the park. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2024 with an opening slated for fall 2024. Memberships would be sold next year, and more information will come at a later date on cost and requirements for membership.

But in the meantime, the District would like to ask the community to help name the park! Complete the form below to submit your idea. Staff will then review the submissions and select the top choices to be presented to the Park Board who will decide on the final name!
