Lifeguard training is well underway at the Park District as pool opening day approaches. Aquatics staff took a moment to reflect on their work recently, as they accepted an award from StarGuard Elite, the Park District’s partner in lifeguard training.
The Park District was thrilled to be presented with an Elite Safety Award at the Monday, April 28 Park Board Meeting from StarGuard Elite. This is the inaugural year for the award, which is being given out worldwide to lifeguard and aquatic organizations that have consistently excelled in fostering strong safety cultures, maintained high safety standards across their operations, and demonstrated a commitment to innovating training and procedures.
The Elmhurst Park District is the only agency in the Chicagoland area receiving the award this year, underscoring the Park District’s reputation for putting safety and training first.
“We are extremely fortunate that our part time staff is so dedicated, particularly our pool managers,” said Director of Recreation, Sarah Lagesse.
Each year, lifeguard staff must complete and pass a 25-hour training program which includes lifeguard rescue skills, emergency procedures and community CPR. The guards must also attend weekly in-service training sessions and participate in surprise simulations. Throughout the season, auditors from Starguard Elite conduct unannounced visits to audit staff performance.
