Horticulture staff helps Girls Scouts plant 160 oak trees

  • Girl Scouts Volunteers Elmhurst

This month, 160 native Bur Oak saplings made their debut as they were planted near the Elmhurst Great Western Prairie’s northern tree line. Local Girl Scout troops reached out to Park District Horticulturist, Michelle Karabetsos, for an activity to achieve their Plant/Gardening Badge which led to developing the project. The Bur Oak saplings were originally harvested as acorns from Wilder Park's 100 year-old Bur Oak located behind the Wilder Park Recreation Building. Staff had a wonderful time helping the Girl Scouts earn their badges.
