A new playground and other park updates are coming to Pioneer Park! The Park Board approved the final Pioneer Park Redevelopment Concept at its Monday, November 13, 2023 Park Board Meeting. The neighborhood can look forward to a new playground, paths, basketball court, site furnishings and updated landscaping next year.
The paths and playground will be reimagined to get the most from the space and incorporate the existing mature trees. The basketball court and goals will be replaced and new site furnishings include nine benches, three standard picnic tables and one accessible picnic table.
Unique to the playground will be a cube imaginative play structure for 2-5 year olds that will provide a cozy clubhouse for discovery. Older kids will be excited to climb the Tidal Wave, a multilevel climber with a variety of different challenges.
To form a Master Plan for the park, the Park District gathered feedback from the community through in-person surveys at the park and a Party in the Park Input Meeting held in July 2023. An online survey was made available in August for the public to comment on potential playground concepts and features.
Construction at the park is expected to begin in June 2024. The non-profit organization, Kids Around the World, will remove the existing playground equipment and refurbish it in an underserved community. The project is expected to be completed in September 2024.
