In a fitting way to celebrate National Dog Day, the Elmhurst Board of Park Commissioners gathered at Canine Corner on Monday, August 26 for a groundbreaking of the first dog park in Elmhurst.

Following delays this spring due to permitting, the Park District is pleased that construction is now underway on the park, located at 0S761 Old York Road. This unique park will feature both large and small dog play areas, a water feature, agility course and more. This addition will enable the Park District to offer a secure place for dogs to be off-leash in a park.

Park District staff looks forward to inviting the community to Canine Corner soon, with an expected completion of the park later this year. Stay tuned to the Park District’s website for details about dog park memberships, which will be required for admittance into Canine Corner.

The Park District was pleased to receive a State of Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity grant for the dog park last winter. This $250,000 grant was secured by State Representative Jenn Ladisch-Douglass, 45th District.

Sponsorship opportunities remain at the dog park. If you’re part of a local business, organization or family interested in making your mark through sponsorship of a park amenity, please reach out to Director of Marketing, Kari Felkamp for more details.
