At its January 26, 2026 Board Meeting, the Park Board approved placement of a new heated restroom building along the Prairie Path near the gazebo at Spring Road. Construction on the project is expected to begin this summer and wrap up by the end of the year.
The permanent, heated restroom will provide trail users year-round access to a safe, clean, and accessible restroom. The facility was one of the projects which was approved by a majority of residents through the 2024 bond referendum.
Feedback on the location was gathered from the community through a public open house and an online survey in Fall 2025. Survey respondents favored the Spring Road location, as compared to locations at Pioneer Park and near York Road. Site topography and utility availability also played important factors in choosing the location. The site provides relatively flat terrain and convenient access to water, electricity, and sanitary services.
The approved location offers a convenient and central position along the Illinois Prairie Path in Elmhurst, where it serves as a popular meeting and resting point for trail users.
Design work will now move forward to ensure the Prairie Path restroom maintains a compatible and appropriate appearance with other restroom buildings within the District.
