Elmhurst Park District Board Commissioner elected to IAPD Board of Trustees

  • Carolyn Ubriaco IAPD

Park Board Commissioner, Carolyn Ubriaco, was recently elected to the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) Board of Trustees. Ubriaco will serve a two-year term on the Board, which guides the IAPD in policymaking and in its mission of serving park districts, forest preserves, conservation, municipal park and recreation, and special recreation agencies.

Ubriaco attended her first IAPD event as a newly elected Park Board Commissioner in 2003. Since that time, she has become a firm believer that involvement in the IAPD helps her fulfill her role.

“IAPD does an exceptional job at promoting good legislation and empowering commissioners to connect with local legislators on a grassroots level using facts and information. Continuing education and being involved is essential to being an effective board member and fulfilling elected duty,” says Ubriaco.

She joined the IAPD/IPRA Joint Legislative Committee in 2019. She also currently serves on the IAPD/IPRA Joint Editorial Committee and IAPD Program Committee.

Ubriaco appreciates the association’s effectiveness at promoting legislation that makes parks and recreation agencies better for communities. She also values the education and outreach work that the IAPD does for park and recreation agencies and staff. She was honored to be nominated to the Board of Trustees and looks forward to doing her part to keep Illinois park districts among the best in the nation.

Ubriaco is currently serving her fourth term as a Park Board Commissioner and has served as Elmhurst Park Board Vice President (2013-14) and President (2014-17, two terms). She considers her work with the IAPD essential to her role as an Elmhurst Park District Park Board Commissioner.

“Serving on IAPD committees has given me the opportunity to collaborate with others around the state of Illinois with a focus on providing the best for our communities.
