Since announcing the Playground for Everyone, the Elmhurst Park District has been moving forward developing ideas and meeting with members of the community to gain support for the project.

To date, a number of community groups have pledged to support the Playground for Everyone project through the People for Elmhurst Parks Foundation (PEP). As Founding Partners, Kiwanis Club of Elmhurst will donate $30,000 over the next two years, and the Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation will donate $20,000. The Elmhurst Jaycees have also pledged to donate $5,000 toward the playground. Additionally, Whole Foods Elmhurst’s One Dime at a Time program provides customers the option to donate 10 cents to PEP for the project for every reusable shopping bag they utilize during their shopping trip through the end of September.

Staff has begun reaching out to the community for input on the playground as well, scheduling focus groups to gather thoughts and ideas, researching playground equipment as well as learning about the importance of color, shade, stimulation and elevated play for children with special needs.

The Elmhurst Park District is proud to work together with the community on such an important project and looks forward to unveiling the playground in 2016. For more information and to get involved with the project, please visit the project's webpage.
