Elmhurst Park District was recognized by the Illinois Association of Park Districts at their Best of the Best Awards Gala on November 12. This year marked the Park District’s 100th year anniversary and the IAPD celebrated the Park District’s enduring legacy of service in preserving parks and recreation opportunities in Elmhurst.

The awards gala celebrates Illinois programs and professionals who motivate Park Districts across the state to new heights in strengthening and furthering the parks, recreation and conservation mission.

As an anniversary award recipient, the Park District was acknowledged for establishing its organization on June 5, 1920. Its first acquisition was the Wilder Estate, now known as Wilder Park.

Through the years, the Park District has continued to pursue additional outdoor and recreational opportunities for Elmhurst, including the recently established Centennial Park, which was dedicated in July 2020. Centennial Park, at 155 E. St. Charles Road, is also the location of the former Redeemer Center, the site of the proposed future Adult Center.

The name of the park reflects back with pride on the last 100 years of the Park District while looking ahead toward the future. The Park District is proud to serve the Elmhurst community and looks forward to another 100 years of service to their mission of enriching lives while having fun.
