Newly elected Park Board member ready to make an impact

  • Commissioner Scarsella

At the Monday, May 10 Park Board meeting, incumbents Kevin Graf and Carolyn Ubriaco were sworn in along with new Commissioner, Meghan Scarsella.

Scarsella’s interest in joining the Board stemmed from her family’s many years of participation in Park District programs, including Sunbeams & Rainbows Preschool, swim lessons at East End Pool and participation in the Impact Dance Company.

With a BA in elementary education and social sciences from Marquette University, Scarsella has more than 15 years of experience as an educator. She is currently employed by D205 as a long-term substitute teacher, but she also spent four years working as an early childhood instructor for the Park District.

“I’ve seen firsthand the joy and value our parks and programs bring to the Elmhurst community and strongly believe in the mission of the EPD,” says Scarsella.

She and her husband are 11-year residents of Elmhurst. Scarsella has strived to make a positive impact on the community by volunteering to lead two local Girl Scout troops, teaching for ECRC’s Little Lambs program and participating in Lincoln Elementary School’s PTA. Next year, she will be serving as a 5th grade Lincoln parent liaison to the Bryan Middle School PTA.

Her upcoming term will offer the chance to work on many exciting projects, including the development of Centennial Park and the redevelopment of Glos Memorial Park. She’s excited to play a part in the Park District’s future.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work on behalf of the Elmhurst community to maintain a high standard for our parks, facilities, and programs.”
