The Elmhurst Park District Board of Park Commissioners cut the ribbon and officially welcomed the public to the newly redesigned Ben Allison sled hill on Saturday, January 28.

Park Board President Vince Spaeth and Executive Director Jim Rogers explained that plans for the renovation of the sled hill were approved by the Park Board in February 2016 in an effort to provide ADA accessibility and a safer sled path that is not angled toward the street.

Construction began in March and consisted of the demolition and partial removal of the concrete water reservoir, re-grading and restoration of the site, installation of a retaining wall, fence and handrails, and creation of the small “beginner sled hill.” Construction concluded in the summer and cost $118,290.

Although there was no snow on the ground during the event, families received free saucer sleds and hot chocolate provided by Brewpoint Coffee.
