With construction anticipated to begin next June, staff is getting ready for the redevelopment of Pioneer Park. The final concept for the park was approved last month and now the Park Board has approved the purchase of equipment for the park. Purchasing the equipment now will ensure its timely arrival this summer.
Each year, the Park District replaces or upgrades a playground. Several factors are considered when choosing what park to redevelop, including lifecycle, use and general condition. Pioneer Park’s playground is worn and, in some areas, damaged by misuse and vandalism. The existing basketball court also shows significant wear and the playground’s surfacing is seeing damage caused by sand migrating on the surface, as well as from age and UV breakdown.
Updates to the park include a new playground, paths, basketball court, site furnishings and landscaping. Construction will begin this June and is anticipated to finish in September 2024.
