The Elmhurst Park District loves the support the community gives its parks, and a recent ranking by WalletHub agrees! Elmhurst recently made the list of WalletHub’s top 100 Best Small Cities in America, coming in at 45, which was the highest ranking among Illinois towns making the list.

In order to determine the best small cities in America, WalletHub compared 1,322 cities across five key dimensions: Affordability, Economic Health, Education & Health, Quality of Life and Safety.

The Quality of Life dimension included data such as the number of parks per capita in the community.

The Park District has focused on adding green space to the community in recent years. The dedication in 2020 of the first new park in three decades, Centennial Park, preserved open space for a neighborhood lacking parks. Work on developing the park began in 2021 and will wrap up in 2022, with a playground, fitness equipment and other features planned.

Open space is also growing near the downtown, with the expansion of Glos Memorial Park underway. This densely populated area of Elmhurst can look forward to this project providing beautiful formal gardens and inviting outdoor seating, with construction work expected to be complete in spring of 2022.

According to the WalletHub website, they compared “more than 1,300 U.S. cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 based on 43 key indicators of livability.”

In order to determine the best small cities in America, WalletHub compared 1,322 cities across five key dimensions: Affordability, Economic Health, Education & Health, Quality of Life and Safety.

While many elements come together to create a great city, the Park District is proud to do its part in making Elmhurst one of the best!
