At the September 9 meeting of the Elmhurst Park District Board of Commissioners, staff presented the implementation plans and financial options for addressing Vision 2020 large-scale projects. The six projects, which can be viewed at vision2020.epd.org, were a direct result of community feedback. After reviewing the financial plans, the Park Board decided to pursue a voter survey that will determine the level of community support to fund the six projects through a referendum.
“Next year is the District’s 100th anniversary, and it’s been 50 years since the community considered supporting a referendum for the Park District,” said Executive Director Jim Rogers, “Following Board direction, the District has done a terrific job taking care of parks and facilities, but we continue to hear that the community wants us to raise the bar. We’re hearing that they want newer and better, and we’re excited about the possibility of being able to provide that for them.”
The surveys will be conducted by aQity Research and Insight Inc. in October. A random sampling of likely registered voters, as well as new residents who are registered voters, will be targeted. The survey results will then be presented to the Park Board later this fall. Those results will provide feedback and data necessary to determine next steps to fund the Vision 2020 large scale projects.
