Plans for a new and improved Salt Creek Park are underway!

  • Salt Creek master plan

During the March 11, 2019 Park Board Meeting, board members approved plans for the redevelopment of Salt Creek Park Playground. Details of the plan include replacing the existing playground with new blue and green equipment that allows for more climbing opportunities, providing additional shaded seating with good sight lines, replacing the wood chips with rubber safety surface and providing more shade trees.

The playground will also feature a Friendship Swing, a one size fits all multi-user swing that allows kids and adults to swing together!

Beyond changes on the playground, the paths on the north and east side of the park will be connected, to create a looped trail. A new drinking fountain and resurfaced street parking are also part of the project details.

The Park Board approved the redevelopment project, including equipment and site amenities in the amount of $319,500. The playground safety surfacing project was approved in the amount of $68,875.

The redevelopment plan was formed after gathering feedback from the community on proposed park improvements. Public input about the park plans was collected through a public meeting, in-person surveys at the playground and an online survey emailed to Salt Creek Park neighborhood residents and made available on the Park District's website and Facebook page.

Redevelopment of the park is aligned with the Park District’s Vision 2020 project goal of improving the condition and maintenance of parks and amenities. For more information about Vision 2020 projects, visit vision2020.epd.org.

Construction is anticipated to begin the week of June 17 and to finish in late September.
