Park Board members, Park District staff and the communities of Elmhurst and Villa Park came together last Saturday at Sugar Creek Golf Course to celebrate the restoration of Sugar Creek, which included a creek shoreline restoration and pond renovation.

The course closed last fall for the project. The creek is an extremely valuable resource that provides open space, aquatic habitat, flood storage, runoff conveyance and recreational opportunities for Elmhurst Park District and Villa Park residents, which own the golf course jointly.

About 50% of the project was funded through grants from the DuPage County Water Quality Improvement Program and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. The other 50% of funding came equally from Sugar Creek Golf Course, the Village of Villa Park and Elmhurst Park District.
