Ben Allison Park playground replacement coming in 2023

Improvements are coming to Ben Allison Park next year, including a new playground. The Park Board approved the park’s Master Plan at their Monday, November 14 meeting.

The final plan includes a playground for 2-5 year olds and 5-12 year olds, bench seating and swings, including a friendship swing. A fly wheel spinner and omnispin spinner will give kids opportunities to spin together. A unique feature to the park will be its reimagined safety surfacing, featuring a playful leaf design.

The park will also have a new access point, near the crosswalk, which will provide a safer crossing than the current mid-block entrance. New paths throughout the park will connect the sled hill, tee-ball field, and newly renovated playground.

The Park District gathered feedback from the community on the project through in-person surveys at Ben Allison Park and at a Party in the Park Input Meeting last August. An online survey was then made available in September which asked the public to comment on potential playground concepts and features.

Construction is expected to begin in June 2023, with the non-profit organization Kids Around the World removing the existing structures to refurbish and reuse them in an underserved community. The park is expected to be finished in October 2023.
