At the Monday, May 8 Annual Board Meeting, incumbent Tim Sheehan was sworn in along with newly elected Commissioner, Susan Smentek. 

Board Elections were held for the year during the meeting, with Commissioner Kevin Graf elected Board President and Commissioner Sheehan elected Board Vice President.

The long-awaited reopening of Sugar Creek Golf Course's nine-hole course is scheduled for Monday, May 1. 

Wilder Park’s open green space will grow following the approval to demolish the former Lizzadro Museum building later this summer. The Park Board approved the project at its Monday, April 10 meeting.

Wilder Park Conservatory will be undergoing a painting project April-mid May.

The facility will remain open for regular hours throughout the project, which will encompass both the interior and exterior of the Conservatory.

Today Governor Pritzker announced the Elmhurst Park District was a recipient of an Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant in the amount of $340,300 to be used to fund half the cost of the planned $680,000 development of a brand-new park in the Pick Subdivision called Pick Park. The Park District anticipates completing design development and engineering this year with construction beginning and the new park opening in 2024.

Park Board Commissioner, Carolyn Ubriaco, was recently elected to the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) Board of Trustees.

Registration for Summer Camps and Aquatics is coming up this Saturday, February 11 at 8 am. The Park District is especially excited this year to get summer underway, as 2023 brings expanded summer camp offerings for the community!

The Maple Trail Woods path will be temporarily closed starting February 28, 2023 for construction of improvements to the McKinley Stormwater Pump Station. 

Elmhurst Park District was thrilled to receive the 2022 Outstanding Park and Facility Award from the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association (IPRA) for Centennial Park. The award was presented at the IAPD/IPRA Annual Conference in Chicago on Friday, January 28.

The pandemic took a toll on a lot of businesses, and the Elmhurst Park District was no different. Due to a $6 million loss of revenue in 2020 and a lack of work for various departments due to mandated shutdowns, a number of positions had to be eliminated. But as the country has now come out of the pandemic and residents locally flock to programs and events, the District has budgeted to add several new positions that will help grow programs and allow staff to better manage parks and facilities. 

Horticulture Staff will be working on a February flower display at Wilder Park Conservatory during the week of January 23. The Conservatory will be open for regular hours at this time, but staff requests no walk-in photoshoots Monday-Friday, as the Conservatory will be a bit messy during the rebuild.

After an extensive review of software solution options, the Park Board approved ActiveNet as the District’s new registration software provider during its December 18 meeting, and last week, District staff finalized the contract with the new vendor.

With the safety of patrons and staff in mind, Wagner Community Center and Courts Plus will close at 5 pm tonight, December 22, and remain closed tomorrow, December 23. 

Plans for a dog park in Elmhurst are coming together. The Park Board approved hiring Upland Design to complete dog park architecture and engineering services at their Monday, December 19 meeting.

Sugar Creek Golf Course held a ground breaking ceremony for the Sugar Creek restoration project on Saturday, November 5.

A new park is on the horizon for Elmhurst Park District. Located at 151 Monterey Avenue in the Pick Subdivision neighborhood, the Park District has applied for an OSLAD grant which could fund 50% of the park’s development. 

At the Monday, October 24 Park Board Meeting, the Elmhurst Garden Club presented a check for $5,000 to the Park District. The money was raised during the club’s annual Garden Walk & Faire, held in July.

This month, 160 native Bur Oak saplings made their debut as they were planted near the Elmhurst Great Western Prairie’s northern tree line.

The Sugar Creek restoration project at Sugar Creek Golf Course will begin Monday, October 3. During the project, the golf course will be closed and unplayable. The project is currently scheduled to be completed in spring 2023.

In June, the Park District made the decision to hire an outside IT consultant to assist with reviewing and selecting a high performing registration software.

The Glos Memorial Park expansion project is finished and the park is reopened to the public. The expansion nearly doubled the size of the downtown park, located at 142 E. Park Avenue.

A new playground is coming to Eldridge Park's east side! The playground, located on the Spring Road side of the park, was originally slated to be updated in 2020, but work was postponed due to pandemic related financial constraints.
